Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! This week I wanted to share some of our favorite vegan splurges from the grocery store. Now when I say splurge I mean it is something exceptional that we shouldn’t be eating regularly because it’s not necessarily clean eating but it is vegan and gluten free deliciousness. I urge you to try these products the next time you’re roaming the grocery store aisles on a Tuesday night looking for something new. Let me know in the comments what is your favorite/new obsession!
1. Enjoy Life Dark Chocolate Bar
I cannot say enough good things about this delicious, heavenly piece of chocolate. This vegan, gluten free, and soy free chocolate bar is any chocolate lovers dream. It is so creamy and rich in flavor that it is really hard to stop at just one piece. No worries though if you do find yourself eating all four segments the serving size is one package so you can finish it off. Eat the whole bar, you deserve it. More info here.
2. Jackson’s Honest Coconut Oil Purple Heirloom Potato Chips
If you’re looking for the perfect crunchy addition to your vegan lettuce wrap or just as a sneaky snack before dinner then I highly suggest you try these chips. They are so crunchy and thin you could just pop one after another until the entire bag is gone. They are cooked with the better alternative of coconut oil so you aren’t clogging up your body with that nasty canola oil. Bonus: who doesn’t love purple potato chips? More info here.
3. Brian’s Best Gluten Free/Vegan Breads
It doesn’t matter what you get from Brian’s Best because everything they bake is phenomenal. I have tried a lot (and I mean like every brand available) of gluten free and vegan bread products and all of them are very mediocre. They are not soft and fluffy or they have a weird cardboard taste or they have really weird unnecessary added ingredients. Brian’s Best is a local bakery that sells fresh baked then frozen breads, rolls, bagels, and pizza crusts. I recently discovered them and my life is exceptionally better just from having tried their products. So head over to their store and get one of everything. You’ll probably see me there as well getting six or seven bags of bagels. It’s a no judgement zone . . . More info here.
4. Hu Cashew Butter + Pure Vanilla Bean Dark Chocolate Bar
Yes, I had to put more chocolate on this list because high quality vegan chocolate deserves to be recognized. I’m extremely passionate about this company and I want to visit one of their kitchens in NYC the next time I make the trip to the city. If you want to have a piece of the best chocolate in the world then do yourself a favor and pick up any of the many varieties Hu offers. I’m a huge fan of the Mint Dark and Kellie loves the Hazelnut Butter as well. I just recently tried the Salty Dark Chocolate and Oh. My. Goodness. I swear everything they make is just actual perfection. More info here.
5. Bare Coconut Chips Sweet & Heat
Have you been craving Fritos or Doritos? Kellie swears these healthier coconut chips taste just like the greasy corn chip from your childhood sleepovers. I’ve been in love with Bare Coconut Chips for a while now but I usually only grabbed the plain or vanilla flavor. When I saw the Sweet & Heat I picked them up as a little surprise for our road trip to NYC (we saw the exceptional Harry Styles. best day ever. more on that another time.) I haven’t seen them at our local grocery store but we found ours at TJ Maxx and I’m sure you could find them on Amazon or another online retailer. ANYWAY, these coconut chips are addicting and definitely satisfy a gluten free, corn free, vegan’s desire to eat Doritos or Fritos. More info here.
6. Miyoko’s Creamery Fresh Vegan Mozzarella Ball
Last week you may have seen my Margherita Salad recipe which features the creamy, flavorful, spot on vegan mozzarella from Miyoko’s. I swear to you cheese was the only thing that kept me from going vegan because all vegan cheese is terrible BUT now that I am vegan I have been discovering some pretty spot on replacements for my old guilty pleasures. I used to love those little mozzarella balls you could find on the Mediterranean bar for your salads. Well, friends, dice up this vegan alternative and you wouldn’t even know you’re eating vegan cheese. Seriously I have to argue with myself on a weekly basis to not buy this cheese. More info here.
7. Pitaya Plus Frozen Dragonfruit
It’s time for you to jump on the pitaya trend because it is a delicious, nourishing, and beautiful treat! These frozen pitaya packets are individually wrapped so you just take one out as you need it and blend it up with any combination of fruits and vegetables! Try it with banana, strawberries, pineapple, and coconut water! I’m telling you now to get your camera ready because when you see the vibrant color this pitaya makes your smoothie you’re going to want to put it on your insta story. Tag us @thenineteensixty so we can see your beautiful creations! More info here.
8. Go Veggies Spinach Burger
So, story time everyone! A few years ago when I was away at school my mom would always send/bring these spinach veggie burgers to me. She got them at the East Aurora farmer’s market and I fell in love. Seriously it was the easiest thing to make either as a burger or I would chop it up on a salad. Then a couple months ago I was browsing the frozen section of Nature’s Market in Wegmans and I saw the vendor’s picture on the freezer case! He has expanded his business and now sells his burgers frozen in Wegmans!! I was so excited and proud all at once. If you buy these burgers I have a few recommendations for cooking them. If you are making them in the oven, use parchment paper so they don’t stick to your pan and make sure to leave them in for a little bit longer than the package says. I like my burgers cooked a little more than the directions recommend so that is personal preference. Also, if you’re going to cook it in a pan on the stove top be prepared that it may break apart a little bit - but it will still be delicious! More info here.
9. Kite Hill Chive Cream Cheese Style Spread
OKAY. Last but certainly not least is this vegan cream cheese from Kitehill. Like I said I’ve been experimenting with more vegan cheeses lately and discovering new brands that are actually delicious unlike most popular vegan cheeses here on the East Coast. One of the vegan Youtubers I watch had the Kitehill Cream Cheese in her grocery haul and stated it was the most realistic vegan cheese she had ever eaten so I obviously had to buy it. Let me tell you - it is better than any dairy cream cheese you have ever tasted. It is a little expensive but it makes for a wonderful treat. Smear it on bagels, use it in mashed potatoes, or take it to your next party with crackers and veggies. Your fellow party goers won’t be able to stop eating it and won’t even be able to tell it’s vegan! More info here.
Thanks so much for reading! I would love to see how you’re using and enjoying some of my vegan favorites so make sure to let me know in the comments or tag us on Instagram with some of your bomb vegan photo opportunities!
